Three decades and two generations of experience and passion go into every smiling face and mouth watering bite that make-up El Chaparral. Our family history is etched into everything we do.

In 1972, our parents, Charlie and Mary Garcia...

Followed their dream to a small eatery in Helotes, Texas. We sold our home in San Antonio and moved into the modest living quarters behind the restaurant. Some of our earliest memories are playing in the kitchen with our older sister Jessica and swimming in the creek behind the restaurant. As Mom managed the books, Papa focused on developing a menu that would keep customers coming back. Drawing from Tex-Mex roots and Latin inspirations, our reputation was born. Our little family business blossomed into a local dining sensation. With the restaurant rapidly growing, my brother and I left to pursue careers in the world of professional soccer. Fate, however, called us home following the loss of our beloved sister Jessica. She always dreamed of adding patio dining to the restaurant, and in 2004 we honored her memory with the addition of “Jessica’s Jardin”. Her spirit now graces our serene patio, lush garden and business philosophy.

Like all families, ours has grown.

We have taken the reins from Mom and Papa, Jessica’s dream of expansion and incorporated our own travel experience to continue the family legacy. Entrees have been added bearing the names of the newest additions to our family and your dining experience can now be enjoyed in San Antonio as well as Helotes. Still, though we have grown considerably, there is no compromise on the quality that comes out of kitchens. The best ingredients and savory cuisine made fresh daily is our family motto. From the enchiladas to our famous bean soup. El Chaparral has served up only the best for our customers and friends. Mom and Papa have since retired, but the two can still be seen from time to time greeting friends and customers. Their commitment to service has never wavered. “I still have to come in and say ’Hi’ to my customers,” says Papa.
